FAQ: -

What are the typical uses for Steel castings?

In industries such as Rail, Offshore, Defence and Heavy Engineering where strong, structural and durable components are required.

Can you produce small batch castings?

Yes we specialise in both small (often one offs) and medium production runs, depending on client requirements.

Do you offer Testing?

Our in-house laboratory houses a state of the art Optical Emission Spectrometer for close compositional control.

We offer 2.2,  3.1 and 3.2 certification, full NDT including but not limited to Magnetic Particle, Dye penetrant, Ultrasonic, Radiography and Positive Material Identification.

What about Heat treatment?

Most of what we manufature is heat treated in house and we can provide the full range of processes including Annealing, Normalise & Temper, Oil Harden & Temper, Water Quench & Temper, Solution Reatment.

Which quality approvals do you hold?

ISO 9001 (UKAS)

We are a Lloyds Register approved manufacturer with several scope approvals related to the marine industry.

What is the difference between Cast and Forged/Wrought Steel?

Cast Steel is produced by pouring the molten metal into a mold, making it ideal for complex shapes and intricate, versatile geometry.

Forged Steel (although starts life as a simple casting) is made by heating and compressing solid shapes resulting in marginally higher strengths. Geometry is limited.
